An elderly man in Tennessee is gaining attention on Facebook after his seemingly unbothered reaction to a group of elementary-aged children allegedly pulling a gun on him in Memphis’ Cooper-Young neighborhood. According to local reports, 74-year-old Nick Canterucci said the boys first attempted to steal from his yard before later returning armed after he confronted them. Viewers had a lot to say in the comments, with many shocked both by the children’s behavior and Canterucci’s response to the gun-wielding.

Speaking to local news, Canterucci, a military veteran, claimed he refused to back down when confronted. “I said, ‘Go ahead, pull the trigger, get it over with. If this is what you wanna do, let’s do it. If not, get out of here, I haven’t got time for this,” he said. Canterucci believed his calm reaction caused the boys to eventually leave.

Tennessee Citizens Pick Sides

Facebook users immediately weighed in, with some arguing the children crossed a line once a weapon was allegedly involved. “Once they present a firearm, they’re no longer children,” one commenter wrote, while another added, “He should have taken care of the problem.” Others questioned whether there was sufficient evidence that the incident occurred as described, with some doubting Canterucci’s version of events altogether.

Despite the confrontation, Canterucci appeared more concerned about the children’s future than the incident itself. “I could tell these kids were just all yak and no shack,” he told reporters. “They talked the talk, but they ain’t walked the walk…. I feel sorry for them that’s their type of mentality.”

The strong reactions also reflect ongoing discussions surrounding gun culture in Tennessee, a state that consistently ranks among the highest in the country for firearm-related violence. Some commenters demanded greater efforts to address the larger gun issue, while others focused more on identifying the boys reportedly involved in this particular incident and holding them accountable.
