Since the announcement of Nintendo’s Switch, we have seen consistent evidence of Nintendo’s attempts to catch up with the current expectations of gamers and gaming systems. And they are continuing the trend with their launch title, Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. The newest addition to the Legend of Zelda series will be getting its own DLC via a $20 season pass option.

This season pass will include 2 different DLC’s; one of which will release in the summer and the other around the holiday season. For those of you unwilling to jump on the Switch bandwagon, the DLC’s will also be available for the Wii U release of the title. The first DLC releasing this summer is said to include a new, harder game mode, a Cave of Trials challenge, and an “additional map feature”. The second DLC, set to release sometime during Holiday 2017, will feature a new story, a new dungeon, and additional challenges. The DLC’s are a package deal, however, so, sorry if you were hoping for just one of them!

Here’s the good news straight from a Nintendo press release:

Starting when the game launches on March 3, players will be able to purchase an Expansion Pass for $19.99, granting access to two new sets of downloadable content for the game when they become available later this year. Immediately upon pre-purchase or purchase of the Expansion Pass, three new treasure chests will appear in the game’s Great Plateau area. One of these treasure chests will contain a shirt with a Nintendo Switch logo that Link can wear during his adventure, exclusive to the Expansion Pass. The other two will deliver useful items. The first content pack is scheduled to launch this summer, and will include the addition of a Cave of Trials challenge, a new hard mode and a new feature for the in-game map. The second content pack will launch in Holiday 2017, and adds new challenges that will let players enjoy a new dungeon and a new original story. The Expansion Pass will be available for both the Nintendo Switch and Wii U versions of the game and are identical. Content packs cannot be purchased individually.
