Zendaya is catching hate on Instagram as promo shots for her new On ambassador campaign garner negativity. The 27-year-old actress, this year entering her sporty era via tennis movie Challengers, is fresh from signing a multi-year deal with the sportswear company, but the brand’s Instagram fans don’t seem impressed by her latest campaign.
On June 7, Zendaya featured in studio photos showing her modeling an array of trendy gym looks. Posing in head-to-toe On, the former Disney star stunned, but fans weren’t feeling her as the label’s ambassador. In fact, one replied that they’d “unfollowed,” adding: “Just like that.”
Zendaya Shows Off Toned Figure In New Instagram Photos
Smiling softly as she modeled a pink crop top bearing the On logo, Zendaya stretched her arms as she flashed her abs in blue leggings in the first photo. The Hollywood actress put her toned torso on display while looking confident, then returning in various On looks that included a pastel cropped hoodie, plus black shorts.
In a caption for its 1.8 million followers, On wrote: “@zendaya Wearing On. That’s it, that’s the post.” The Euphoria actress wouldn’t be the first celebrity to front a major sports brand. While singer Selena Gomez and mogul Kylie Jenner have fronted PUMA in the past, Wonder Woman actress Gal Gadot is the face of Reebok. Comeback brand FILA is, meanwhile, represented by model Hailey Bieber.
While some praised Zendaya, many seemed to have the opinion that she has no place as the face of On.
Fans Say She’s The Reason They’ve ‘Stopped Buying’
The comments have proven brutal. “This might make me stop buying ON,” a popular reply read. “She is overrated and not a good candidate for a campaign,” another wrote.
Others also appeared to feel that signing a major celebrity draws away from the brand’s authenticity. “Noooo! On is for athletes, not for fashion/singing icons. Should have hired a US Olympian Track star,” one said. “ON on a celeb? No, thank you” was just another remark.
The post did, however, gain love from Law Roach, Zendaya’s trusty stylist. The actress is also raking it in via brand deals that include her ongoing ambassador status for Louis Vuitton, plus Bulgari diamonds.
Fortunately, not all replies were negative. “I like zendaya but none of these clothes are form fitting her body! I’m pretty petites so I doubt it they will fit me,” one fan wrote, praying that the brand would revisit its sizing.
