An engagement is one of the most special milestones in a couple’s lives, but for Zoey Deschanel’s proposal, her now-fiance Jonathan Scott has admitted that he was overcome with emotion. The couple had been dating for four years, and on a trip to Scotland in August 2023, he decided to get down on one knee and ask the actress to marry him. Now, several months later, he is sharing more about the moment that changed everything.
What Has Been Said About Zoey Deschanel’s Proposal?
HGTV’s Property Brothers star Jonathan Scott discussed the emotions surrounding his proposal in a recent interview with Page Six. “We were in Glasgow, Scotland. We were on a family trip with the kids. I had planned it all in advance for doing the tour and everything. And then at the end, we cleared the castle,” he recalled of how he had involved the New Girl actress’s two children (whom she shares with ex, Jacob Pechenik).
“We were in Edinburgh, Edinburgh Castle, and we were the last people on the property, and I had it set up, so they said, ‘Oh, there’s a pipe band playing. You want to go listen?’ Yeah, great,’” he said. The moment was perfect; the setting was magical and then they played a special song, Neil Young’s Harvest Moon, which Scott told the publication is their song. “She cried and she said yes. And I’m a blubbering mess. Like the wedding is going to be a disaster because I will not be able to get through,” he said.
The couple posted a sweet picture of the engagement and Zoey Deschanel sporting her new ring on Instagram in August 2023. Fans reacted to the message with comments of support. Jonathan Scott and Deschanel appear to still be in a happy and committed relationship. Their next milestone will be their wedding (although Scott offered no insight into that in his recent interview).
