The wait is almost over for the sequel to the Xbox’s most successful real- time strategy game, Halo Wars. In anticipation, developers 343 Industries and Creative Assembly have now released the launch trailer for Halo Wars 2. As fans of the first game can attest, some of the faces are familiar and some terrifying ones are new.
From the forces of good, we see a return of Captain Cutter the consistent voice in your ear and moral compass during the first title. Lucky for him, 28 years in cryo-sleep has done him good. He has given up on the dorky mustache for a more dignified beard. More importantly, anyone comparing the character models between the two titles can quickly see the leaps and bounds in visual fidelity between the two titles.
In Halo Wars 2, The Covenant are led by a new savage Brute named Atriox. His power is immediately evident in the trailer as we see him crush a Spartan helmet in a single hand. Could this be the toughest Brute in the Halo universe after Halo 2 finished with the fight against Tartarus? This time will certainly be different as all combat occurs in the overhead RTS mode. Players direct groups or individual units to objectives and enemies to attack.
Halo Wars 2 releases February 21, 2017. Although, those that purchase the Ultimate Edition ahead of time can get their feet wet a full four days early. The game will feature a full campaign as well as multiplayer and blitz mode. The latter two modes permit players to see what life is like leading the alien Covenant forces. Have a go at their purple, plasma based technological marvels such as the Phantom and Wraith. If that seems like heresy, don’t worry, you can also lead the charge of Spartans, Scorpion tanks and Warthogs fighting for the survival of humanity. The choice is yours.
