For beginner vampires, V Rising can be a bit overwhelming without the proper tips and tricks. Since this game combines survival, crafting, and ARPG features, newcomers can find a few things confusing. Thankfully, the game does its best to explain the basics, but given how it gives you the reins to do whatever you please, you might want to know what the best course of action is for your first hours. Well, hold on to your fangs because we have a few tricks to get you started in the world of V Rising.
10. Don’t Build Your First Base Too Deep Into the Map
After years of waiting, V Rising finally allows you to relocate your base at any moment. Previously, you had to dismantle everything or stick to your base in the starting area; not anymore. However, we imagine a few vampires might want to head past the starting area and build a centric home. We advise against it. Instead, take your time building your first castle, get to gear level 30 or 40, and then explore beyond the first forest. With the full release of V Rising, it pays to be patient.
9. Tweak Your Server Settings
Whether you’re playing solo or with others, I recommend playing with your server settings for a bit. For example, I don’t enjoy the long waiting time when some items are processing. That’s why I always reduce the time each processing station needs to make crafting go faster. Also, this is one of the many settings you can change. You can adjust PvP hours, enemy drops, and more. So, if you want to tailor your experience a bit further, check what your server has and perform some tweaks.
8. Don’t Go Feeding on Everyone
All vampires hunger; we are aware of that, and it is also a prominent mechanic in the game. However, one of the best beginner tips we can give you is to lay off the “F” key and stick to one blood type at first. You’ve no idea how many times I’ve gone trigger-happy and fed on an enemy with 1% blood type and lost my 86% blood; it hurts. If you feed prematurely on someone, left-click to instantly kill them and avoid replacing your blood type.
7. Hold On To Your Old Armor
V Rising has interesting features that make holding on to old armor worth it. As you progress through the game, you’ll unlock a station that allows you to salvage most items. But another thing you can do is give your old armor to some of your servants, which is what I recommend. They might not have the best equipment, but they won’t go running around with basic armor that won’t provide them with enough protection.
6. Swap Weapons During a Fight
This is one of the rookie mistakes I made, but now I want to pass it on as a tip for V Rising beginners. Certain enemies receive more damage from certain weapons. For instance, skeletons take more damage from maces. Since you should have different armaments when exploring, try to swap them mid-fight and see which one does more damage. You might find one to work better against a specific enemy, and that’ll make the encounter much easier.
5. Gather As Much Paper As Possible
While you can unlock most things by following the main quest, there are certain weapons and armor you can only get by doing research. During your travels, you might find full blueprints already, but a few others need paper. In your research station, you can use 50 pieces of paper to unlock a random blueprint. This is useful for getting Merciless weapons and even some rare armor that might boost you up to gear level 40.
4. Use Jewels As Soon As You Get Them
One of the best things about V Rising is the combination of melee and magic combat, and for fans of the latter, jewels are the best things you can have with you. All jewels modify how spells work. One of my favorite types of magic is chaos, and I love seeing my Aftershock spell knock enemies back after slotting the right jewel. Thankfully, you can swap these items on the fly, so play with all of them until you find the right spell effect.
3. Build Two of Each Processing Station
This might seem obvious, but many tend to forget this beginner tip in V Rising. If you want to speed up your processing, build two of each station; this means two sawmills, two grinders, etc. Doing so will allow you to get materials faster, especially when you are trying to build a castle with the proper walls, which require a lot of stone bricks. Once you unlock the right flooring, you can stick to one station of each and free up some space in your lair.
2. Don’t Control the First Human You See
We know the best vampire fantasy is the one where we can control anyone to do our bidding. It feels great. However, you shouldn’t convert the first run-of-the-mill rogue you spot. I recommend waiting until you find enemies who are level 20 and above and control them; these are the ones with better stats and skills. Of course, this will only work during the early hours, and you’ll have to replace your workforce soon enough. Thankfully, there are enough humans to feed on in V Rising.
1. Stick To The Questline
Our final beginner tip for V Rising, and one that seems obvious, but, believe it or not, people tend to forget about it, is to stick to the main quest. The main questline serves as an extended tutorial and a great way to get you on the right path to facing V Blood carriers and unlocking useful crafting stations. There’ll come a time when you’ll hit a kind of a roadblock, and things will get open-ended, so don’t worry about the game holding your hand forever. Still, for newcomers, this quest is great to get you on your vampire path.
Ultimately, it’s up to you to choose which path to take. However, following these tips will make your vampire onboarding much easier. If you ever feel the game is too challenging or too confusing, feel free to lower the difficulty or edit your server settings. And if you feel you need a bit of practice, start a solo playthrough, get your fangs wet, and then swap to a multiplayer server to show other vampires who’s the boss around these woods.
