With the release of Pikmin 4 taking the Nintendo Switch by storm, the hype for the Pikmin series is skyrocketing. One of the coolest elements of Pikmin has always been the fascinating alien creatures. Each creature has a fantastic design, both mechanically and physically. Seeing an extraordinary new otherwordly beast to fight is always exciting. However, this feeling of intense discovery and battle is doubled with boss fights. Boss encounters make for an engaging experience in Pikmin, challenging players to utilize everything they’ve learned from the game so far to survive. Ranging from massive spiders to burrowing birds, these boss fights cover a huge variety of amazing creatures. Here are the best bosses throughout the Pikmin series.
10. Empress Bulbax
First up, we have the Empress Bulbax from Pikmin 2. This boss is an interesting variation of the usual Bulborb enemy, sporting an extraordinarily long and worm-like body. The Empress Bulbax will use its massive size to attempt to roll over Pikmin, crushing them with its hefty mass. As far as Pikmin bosses go, the Empress Bulbax is the best in its simplicity. The fight, although straightforward, is very hectic and fun.
9. Beady Long Legs
Next up, the Beady Long Legs is not only one of the best bosses in Pikmin but also oddly unnerving. This massive spider-like creature has long legs and a large bulb-like center. Players will need to avoid the gigantic stomping feet of the spider while attacking its bulbous center. Fighting this boss for the first time is a terrifying experience many will never forget.
8. Vehemoth Phosbat
The Vehemoth Phosbat has one of the best designs out of any boss in Pikmin. Hailing from Pikmin 3, Vehemoth Phosbat is a huge moth-like creature with interesting antennas and a massive mouth. The insectoid beast can also turn itself invisible, making for a thrilling fight overall. By lighting the room, players will be able to stun the creature, making for a great counterattack opportunity.
7. Giant Breadbug
Pikmin 2’s Giant Breadbug is one of the best bosses of the Pikmin series, yet it is still one of the weaker bosses on this list. Despite having a relatively easy fight, the Giant Breadbug has captured the hearts of many fans, including myself, due to how adorable it is. Its simple design of a large walking loaf of bread is bound to make some players hesitate before attacking.
6. Plasm Wraith
The Plasm Wraith is the final boss of Pikmin 3 and one of the game’s best bosses. The creature is a giant amorphous blob of gold that has taken a liking to Captain Olimar. The fight with this creature is an epic encounter through many environments, culminating in an intense battle. However, this boss would be ranked higher if some of the parts of its fight were less tedious.
5. Smokey Progg
Next, the Smokey Progg is a hidden boss of the original Pikmin and makes for one of the best fights in the game. Although players never need to fight this strange beast, defeating it will net the player 100 Pikmin. However, be ready because the Smokey Progg has a massive health pool and is the hardest fight in the entire game.
4. Emperor Bulbax
The Emperor Bulbax is one of the best classic Pikmin bosses and has appeared throughout the series. Functioning as the first game’s final boss, the massive Grub-dog uses its sticky tongue to capture Pikmin. This enemy is a blast to battle and is one of the most iconic bosses in the series.
3. Burrowing Snagret
Arguably the best iconic enemy besides the Emperor Bulbax, however, is the Burrowing Snagret. This creature is a fusion between a snack and a bird that can quickly burrow underground and ambush its prey. When fighting this creature, players must be on high alert to protect their Pikmin. Over the years, this boss has gotten some extra fame because it is an Assist Trophy in the Super Smash Brothers series.
2. Titan Dweevil
Next up is the final boss of Pikmin 2, the Titan Dweevil. What makes this boss one of the best in Pikmin history is how interesting its fight is. Players must change their Pikmin and strategies depending on what weapons the beast throws at them. Overall, the Titan Dweevil is one of the best fights mechanically in all of Pikmin.
1. Waterwraith
Finally, the best boss in the history of Pikmin is the Waterwraith. Coming from Pikmin 2, fighting the Waterwraith is one of the most intense moments in the series. The giant water blob will initially attempt to roll over your Pikmin in a claustrophobic, maze-like cave. Players will need to reach the final floor of the cave to even get a chance to fight the creature. Due to its exceptional design and mechanics, the Waterwraith will forever be our favorite boss in the Pikmin series.
