Amy Slaton has come under fierce criticism from 1000-Lb Sisters fans due to her antics during her sister Tammy Slaton’s wedding during the season 4 finale. Leading up to the event, Amy Slaton appeared happy for her elder sister Tammy and even took charge of planning the wedding.
However, Amy acted awkwardly for most parts of the ceremony. While giving her speech, Amy drank straight from a whole bottle of non-alcoholic wine. Surprisingly, her gestures and speech mirrored someone drunk. Amy started her speech by saying,
“Um, you’ve always been my big sister. We’ve always been Amy and Tammy, Amy and Tammy, the Slaton sisters. And now it’s like, Amy Halterman and Tammy – what was your last name? I’m sorry.”
Tammy rescued her sister, reminding her that her husband’s last name was Willingham — as the room reacted with an awkward chuckle. Later, during her confessional, Amy gets herself into more trouble with the fans by making the whole ceremony about herself, saying,
“We were the Slaton sisters, and now I’m a Halterman, and she’s a Willingham.”
As tears roll down her eyes she concludes,
“It’s a little, you know, it’s not us no more. We’re not the Slaton sisters.”
Although Amy has faced her share of criticisms down the years, her behavior during the wedding surprised many fans. However, there are specific reasons why the mother of two behaved the way she did during the marriage.
1000-Lb Sisters Amy Was Dealing With Marriage Issues
Although Amy chose the wrong moment to let her inner turmoil out, she is truly struggling. With her marriage to Michael Halterman seemingly over, it is understandable that she may have been overwhelmed by her new reality of being a single mom to two toddlers.
According to court documents, Michael filed for divorce from Amy on March 13 in Kentucky. The former couple famously eloped in 2017 before tying the knot in 2019. News of their divorce comes barely a year after the two welcomed their second son Glenn Allen Halterman. The couple also shares a two-year-old son Gage Deon Halterman.
Amy has previously gushed about being a mom and how that was all she wanted since childhood. After the birth of her second son, Amy also claimed her family was complete. All these are recent sentiments the reality star shares, so it’s understandable that she’s a bit emotional at her sister’s wedding.
1000-Lb Sisters Amy Was Moved By The Sisters Life Events
In her confessional statement, Amy referred to how it had always been the “Slaton sisters,” but that wouldn’t be the same again following their respective marriages. As earlier stated, it was the worst moment to unveil her inner turmoil, but it doesn’t invalidate the truth in her words. The sisters have come a long way together and have always had each other’s back more than anyone else.
Right from their childhood when they started fending for themselves after the passing of their grandmother. They also have undergone a life-changing weight-loss journey, where they were each other’s primary support system and confidant.
Now, with both sisters getting married and children coming into the picture, there is always that sense that they would lose that bond that held them so tightly for many years. While it doesn’t justify her actions at her sister’s wedding, it only makes it more forgivable.
