The first look at gameplay footage from Bioware’s Anthem is here. Lead producer Ben Irving talks about the upcoming game and takes us through nearly 20 minutes of the mission Scars and Villainy. At E3, fans experience a little of the social co-op action RPG, but now we know a lot more.
In Anthem, players explore the world as Freelancers. They choose between giant mech suits called Colossus, or fight outside the machines in exosuits called Javelins. These suits offer distinct ways to play Anthem. Colossus are fit for either close quarters combat or move more slowly but unleash more firepower. While Javelins run around as Ranger’s who focus more on precision fighting. Or take on the role as a Storm.

The footage shows players fighting enemies called hunters, scrappers, and scars. Gods called Shapers built and crafted the world, then abandoned it and left behind clues about their culture.
In Anthem, friends at any level can play together to earn experience and great rewards.”
As the players traverse the world, they explore as their Colossus or Javelins, slaying enemies with a mixture of bullets, flamethrowers, and explosives. Players can invite others to join them and strengthen their squad. Up to four characters can explore the world of Anthem at once. Low level players can join higher leveled missions, but don’t worry, Darrah says you can play solo if you want.

Players work as a team to bring down enemies and complete missions. After enemies are defeated they drop loot which allows players to become more powerful and create personal loadouts for their Colossus or Javelin. Loot works similar to gear from World of Warcraft of Destiny. The most powerful known as legendary.
The world is home to Strongholds, four player areas that lead to greater rewards and a boss fight.
Anthem releases February 22nd, 2019 on PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.
