Around 4,000 individuals who attended a Roblox developer conference have been involved in a data breach and had their personal data leaked. The conference was only attended by developers, so users likely have nothing to worry about. The event took place sometime between 2017 and 2020, and the company kept the whole leak under wraps until now. This leak includes things like the attendees’ names, actual addresses, phone numbers, and even the sizes of their shirts.
Details of the Roblox leak were initially broken by Troy Hunt, the owner of the “Have I Been Pwned” website which mainly focuses on data breaches. He got contacted by multiple sources that gave corroborating information. This confirmed that the breach took place in 2021, but it didn’t become too much of a problem at the time. Even so, some high-profile attendees started getting harrassed soon after.
Roblox Leak Affects Around 4,000 Individuals Due To Data Breach
The information that has been leaked is enough to be used for many nefarious purposes including scams, harassment, and even identity theft. The data breach is especially concerning when taking into account that some of the people attending the events were minors who joined Roblox’s developer program.
Once the news got out, Roblox Corporation gave a statement to PC Gamer stating that the company is aware of the data breach and claimed that the leak was very limited, impacting only a small subset of people. But that changed quickly as even more details came to light.
Roblox Corporation has since given another statement directly to Hunt, saying that the company has now contacted everyone who was involved in the breach. Those that were minimally affected got an apology email, while others that fell victim to the full brunt of the leak were promised a year of identity protection.
