The news recently broke that Henry Cavill will officially no longer be Superman. Of course, many of us assumed this would happen. However, we’re still sad to see another era of Superman come to an end. Though perhaps not the most well-received Superman actor, Henry Cavill’s take on the character has its fans. But now that the news has settled, we have 5 actors we’d love to see play Superman post-Henry Cavill.
Of course, it’ll probably be a while before we see the new Superman grace our screens. Plans for the future of the DCU are early, and many people could play the role besides the 5 actors we’d love to see.
5 Possible Superman Actors
The task of picking a new Superman is not an easy one. Regardless of who the studio picks, many people will be unhappy with the choice to play the superhero on the big screen. However, people’s minds usually change as they finally see the film depicting the new Superman or any other long-time character played by different actors. Because it’s so hard for anyone to cast a character like this, even just for fun, we’ve picked 5 actors we’d love to see portray Superman. Although no one knows, the rumors say that perhaps the studio wants a younger actor to play the character. With that in mind, here are our 5 picks for the next Superman.
5. Jacob Elordi
Of course, most people know Jacob Elordi from his role in Euphoria. He plays Nate Jacobs, who is perhaps the opposite of the Superman good-guy image. However, Jacob Elordi has the look needed to play the new Superman. He may not be as buff as Henry Cavill, but if they’re going younger, that may not matter. At age 23, the Australian-born actor is red hot in Hollywood. Besides his role in Euphoria, fans can see Jacob Elordi in the Netflix film franchise, The Kissing Booth. Even though this isn’t the most critically acclaimed movie series, this potential new Superman has shown that he is a great actor with his scenes in Euphoria on HBO.
Euphoria will be back for a third season on HBO, but Jacob Elordi will also play Elvis Presley in the upcoming film Priscilla. The film will be based on the memoir Priscilla & Me. It comes from A24, but there is no current release date. However, it could cause even more interest in Jacob Elordi as Superman if it’s any good. Of course, many actors could play Superman, but Jacob deserves a second look for the next person to wear the cape.
4. David Corenswet
One of the biggest names discussed to potentially be the next Superman is David Corenswet. The Philadelphia-born actor is currently 29 and has many notable roles under his belt. He has already been in two Ryan Murphy productions, The Politician and Hollywood. Both series were on Netflix, but the young actor has also been on the big screen. Most recently, he played one of the leads in the horror movie Pearl opposite Mia Goth. Pearl was a huge success in theatres, which makes David Corenswet even more of a name that should be considered as one of the 5 actors we’d love to see play Superman.
In addition to his roles, David Corenswet is a graduate of the Julliard School class of 2016. This means not only does he have quite the resume, but he has the acting chops needed to take the character in different directions. David also fits the age range of what we know about the plans for Superman. Next on David’s list, he will begin filming a new FX show next year called The Answers, which is an adaptation of a novel of the same name.
3. Austin Butler
Austin Butler is a huge name in Hollywood, thanks to his role as Elvis on the big screen. Not only did he get a ton of press and critical acclaim, but the 31-year-old actor will likely get an Oscar nomination for the role. This means he has the acting chops to pull off the character. In addition, we’ve seen him host SNL, which means he could also bring a bit of humor to Superman if he were cast in the role. Besides Elvis, Austin Butler has been in The Carrie Diaries and Once Upon A Time In Hollywood. Butler will also appear in Dune: Part Two.
Like everyone else on this list, Austin Butler has the looks to pull off Superman. However, besides being tall, he’s not quite as big as the character usually is on screen. This doesn’t rule him out, as actors gain and lose weight all the time for roles. In most ways, we think he’d make a great next Superman.
2. Michael B Jordan
Michael B Jordan may technically be a little older than the next Superman actor requires. However, at 35, we think he is still more than youthful enough to pull off the role. Michael B Jordan almost needs no introduction as he has been working for years. Most recently, he appeared in the box office hit Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. The actor will also soon make his directorial debut with Creed III. He also has his own experience with Superman, as he was recently developing a black Superman character for HBO Max. However, with the uncertainty at Warner Brothers, it’s unclear if that project will continue.
Michael B Jordan has the looks and the charisma to play the character. Throughout his career, he has shown a true talent that could bring new depth to Superman. He is one actor we’d love to see as the next Superman.
1. Glen Powell
Glen Powell has been climbing the ladder of success in Hollywood for quite some time now. The 34-year-old actor has been in such notable works as Scream Queens, The Dark Night Rises, and most recently, he was a significant character in Top Gun: Maverick. 2022 has been his biggest year, and being the next Superman could take him to even bigger heights. Like Michael B Jordan, he is a little older than actors they’ll probably look into, but he’s not that far off. In addition, he has less of the Superman look than anyone else on this list. Still, we think he could nail the character.
It’ll be a while before we see the next Superman on screen. However, we think these 5 are solid picks because they embody the character in some significant way.
