Diablo 4 has taken over the gaming world with addictive gameplay and great reviews. For many, however, Diablo 4 marked their first experience with an action-based RPG. While the Diablo series, and its newest game, Diablo 4, are some of the best and highest-reviewed of the genre, plenty of other games like this series exist. For players tired of the same Diablo 4 grinding, these games may be a great choice to add much-needed variety. Although some of these games may not have the same staying power as something like Diablo 4, hopefully, they still leave an impact nonetheless. Here are five games to play if you love Diablo 4.
5. Hades
While it contains the least amount of RPG elements on the list, Hades is an excellent choice for Diablo 4 fans. For ARPG fans, Hades’ fast-paced and quick combat may be a change from what they’re used to. However, once players get the hang of it, they’ll be fighting off the hordes of the Underworld in no time. Additionally, both games have a similar style as well. Although Hades is inspired by Greek mythology, Diablo 4 players will feel right at home, slaying demons and undead. Unlike Diablo 4’s gameplay, however, Hades is a Roguelike game, which may take a bit of adjustment to get used to. Overall, while there are many things different between these two games, Hades is a great game to play if you love Diablo 4 but hate grinding for gear.
4. Warhammer: Chaosbane
For fans of both Diablo 4 and Warhammer, Warhammer: Chaosbane is the perfect fusion of the two worlds. Firstly, Chaosbane was less well-received than Diablo 4’s reviews. However, Chaosbane still has a lot of redeeming qualities, including fun classes and stories. Chaosbane is at its strongest when fighting off enemies in fun and engaging ARPG combat. Additionally, with six classes to choose from, fans will have their pick of plenty of archetypes from the Warhammer universe. On top of this, for non-Warhammer fans, the Grimdark universe has some interesting similarities to Diablo 4’s dark fantasy, which makes it an easy transition for new fans. Chaosbane may be a bit niche for some, but it’s worth a try for any Warhammer fan who loves Diablo 4.
3. Lost Ark
For Diablo 4 fans looking for more of a traditional MMO experience, Lost Ark is a great option. Overall, Lost Ark is an extremely fun MMO-ARPG with a similar gameplay to Diablo 4. This makes it a perfect Diablo 4 alternative to check out. Lost Ark is especially great for players who love grinding in Diablo 4. Lost Ark sports massive amounts of end-game content and gear grinding that is sure to keep fans busy for a long time. If players aren’t a fan of grinding, then Lost Ark is a game that players should avoid. However, out of many games on this list, Lost Ark will arguably provide players with the most content.
2. Path of Exiles
Another game to play if you love Diablo 4 is the ARPG Path of Exiles. This game takes heavy inspiration from the Diablo series and makes for the perfect change of pace from Diablo 4. Path of Exiles is a fantastic choice for players looking for a game more similar to the old-school style of Diablo 2. On top of this, the setting of the world mimics the dark fantasy vibe that Diablo fans have grown to love. However, despite their similarities, the two games have some major differences. Mainly, Path of Exiles has massive levels of build customization and diversity. Players can customize their characters to their heart’s content with 1,325 passive skills and 123 skill points to spend. Ultimately, Path of Exile takes what players loved about old-school Diablo and expands upon it.
1. The Torchlight Series
Finally, the best game for Diablo fans to check out is Torchlight. Torchlight was partially developed by Max and Erich Schaefer, two of the co-designers of the original Diablo and Diablo 2. From that alone, fans should already know that this game will be a great Diablo-esque experience. The Torchlight series takes on a slightly goofier tone than the darker vibes of Diablo. Additionally, the game helps provide many fresh concepts to the genre, including the addition of a transforming pet. With fun fishing and quests, Torchlight delivers an enjoyable experience for all kinds of ARPG players. If you loved Diablo 4, you should give Torchlight a try.
