90 Day Fiance: The Other Way‘s Oussama gave off some glaring red flags throughout the season, but Debbie Aguero portrayed some questionable conduct as well. Debbie, a 67-year-old woman from Georgia, joined the cast of the TLC series in its fourth season, where her romance with Oussama, her 24-year-old partner from Morocco, played out. As with most 90 Day couples, their relationship kicked off online, and the two sustained the long-distance affair for up to three years.
The Oddly-Matched Relationship
When the TLC family first met the couple, it seemed like Debbie was a “cougar” preying on a young kid thanks to their 43-year age gap. Many even labeled her as a predator early in the season. But as things progressed, there appeared to be an opinion shift as fans began spotting numerous red flags on Oussama’s end, suggesting he did not have Debbie’s best interest at heart. Issues like Oussama’s poor financial status and unwillingness to get a job, his obvious need for paid dental and optical care, and his thirst for a K1 Visa to the U.S. were some of the disturbing fears that popped up.
Oussama proved these fears right when he refused to marry Debbie after she relocated to Morroco to be with him. The artist and poet even gave her the ultimatum of them relocating to the United States together or calling off the relationship. The incident ultimately made the Moroccan into the 90-Day Fiancé villain. But the latest 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way season 4 tell-all gave a different view on their mismatched romance. In fact, more than ever, it is more glaring that the relationship between the two was purely transactional, and Debbie was on the benefitting end. Here are all the glaring signs viewers missed earlier that confirm Debbie was the party with ulterior motives all along.
Debbie Aguero Was Too Eager To Relocate to Morocco
Throughout their 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way season, Debbie seemed to have it all figured out. Her move to Morocco, marriage to Oussama, and their happy-ever-after rubbing minds about art and poetry. The only factor that seemed to be missing was Oussama’s view on the subject, something viewers didn’t think much of until he spelled it out to Debbie and made it clear to her how much he prioritized pursuing his dreams in the U.S., which begins with obtaining a visa.
Fans and stars alike have since slammed Oussama for seemingly love-bombing Debbie for years just to snag himself a visa. But 90 Day Fiancé’s Gabriel Paboga has a different opinion. The TV personality shared his thought during the tell-all episode, which aired in May 2023. Reacting to stars condemning the 24-year-old’s actions, the TV personality revealed he believed Oussama genuinely loved Debbie, contrary to what most people thought. He then brought up the possibility of Debbie being the defaulting party, saying.
“She could be using him to live in Morocco, but nobody acknowledges that. But I think Oussama, he messed up. She could have gave you the life that you think you could have had in the United States.”
As for why Debbie would have wanted so much to move to Morocco, fans had a few ideas. One Reddit user Full_Pepper_164 explained how Debbie stood to reap the most benefit from their transactional relationship while Oussama ended up with nothing. The user shared,
“Ms. Debbie, moves to a 3rd world country and lives like an expat – all the Western comforts at developing country prices. She stretches out her retirement funds and lives like a queen worry-free.”
Another opined,
“She definitely went to Morocco (like a lot of the older white American ladies on the show do there & in other “third world” countries) with rose colored glasses thinking of how cool it would be to tell everyone back home how she took a young Berber Moroccan lover and spends her days being cared for and having poetry read to her every afternoon.”
The idea of relocating to a third-world country hoping to live above the poverty line isn’t farfetched, given the staggering difference in the exchange rate. Living like an expatriate in a country like Morocco, with a younger dude by her side qualifies as living the dream.
Dating Oussama Landed Debbie Aguero a Spot on 90 Day Fiancé
Like it or not, the only reason Debbie Aguero got her slot on the TLC series 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way was her relationship with her 43-year younger beau. 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way is known for featuring the most oddly-matched couples, seemingly mismatched in age, financial capabilities, or even physical attributes.
But unlike other 90 Day Fiancé spin-offs, the American would end up relocating from the U.S. to the home country of their love interest. While Oussama clearly did not expect this twist in their televised love story, Debbie certainly knew what she signed up for from the onset. By implication, moving abroad could have been in the cards for her from the onset, irrespective of Oussama’s true intentions. One fan wrote on Reddit,
“Debbie is selfish. She sold her story to 90D agreed to have them film her. For notoriety + $15,000 per season (if she lasts that long) Probably with dreams of becoming a famous reality television star. The ‘couples’ thing = an appealing gimmick.”
She proved this beyond doubt when she remained unflinching after Oussama gave her his ultimatum. Despite appearing delusional and love-bombed earlier, she was so cool-headed when she made her decision to walk away from her relationship and flee Morocco for good. Even worse, she did so without looking back. This only proves she was, perhaps, only using her younger beau for the 90 Day Fiancé paycheck and the fame that comes with it. Not to mention the publicity her art store stands to gain.
90 Day Fiancé’s Debbie Aguero’s Moves Were Always Calculated
One takehome from the outcome of Debbie and Oussama’s showmance on 90 Day Fiancé is that the 67-year-old wasn’t as delusional as she seemed at first. Contrariwise, it seems most of her moves so far have been well-calculated, from dating her younger beau and joining the show, to relocating to Morocco.
When viewers first met the 90 Day Fiancé couple, many feared for the welfare of Debbie Aguero, as they believed her too lovestruck to see through Oussama’s schemes. Her kids especially feared the Morrocan was up to no good, with son Julian never hesitating to voice his conviction that the younger man only wanted to scam her.
Despite the many warnings, Debbie didn’t budge but kept up her romance with Ousamma. The only time they managed to get through to Debbie was when her kids convinced her to get a prenup before relocating to Morocco, where she intended to marry her lover. Suddenly, the love-struck teenager persona that kept her on a constant fairytale ride wore off, and she willingly obliged.
Aside from being clear-eyed enough to get a prenup when it mattered, Debbie also knew not to succumb to Oussama’s desire to get a K1 visa. This could only mean she had a well-contrived plan to retire to Morocco from the onset and never intended to deviate from it, even if for love. Then there’s the process of acquiring a K1 visa for Oussama, which wasn’t so visible anyway, given their age gap. And fans believe she was counting on that all along. One Redditor wrote,
“Due to age difference, Debbie would have difficulty getting a Fiancé Visa. US won’t buy it.”
Oussama Would Have Been the Ideal Caregiver
Young, an artist likely to set up his own home studio with enough medical needs to feel indebted to her, Oussama seemed like the right pick for Debbie’s grand retirement plan. Being over four decades her junior, the Moroccan artist is likely to outlive Debbie. Hence, marrying him would guarantee she has a love interest by her side, taking care of her forever. The reality star let those ambitions slip her lips several times during the show. Fans believed that to be the height of selfishness on her part. Reddit user LunarCycleKat, divulged,
“She mentions him taking care of her at least 3 times over the season. That alone is selfish AF., believed.”
While this seems to be the most logical explanation for Debbie’s preference for younger men, the 67-year-old has a different line of thought. In one interview, Debbie explained this fascination with younger men, saying she only opted for them because she couldn’t find men her age willing to date her.
Somehow, this still boils down to the reasoning that Oussama isn’t exactly Debbie Aguero’s first choice. Rather, she only settled for him because he was her next available option to fill her romantic needs.
