The directors of Avengers: Endgame are adapting a Magic: The Gathering anime style show for Netflix. Yes, the Russo brothers are working on somehow translating the popular card game by Wizards of the Coast to the small screen.

According to a tweet from the official Magic: The Gathering Twitter page, the show will follow the game’s mage type characters known as Planeswalkers.

The Planeswalkers released in 2007, 14 years after Magic: The Gathering was created by Richard Garfield. Today, there are around 179 official cards with the Planeswalker title in their name featured in the card game.

The art featured below shows off the Planeswalker Chandra Nalaar in all her fiery glory. In the game, they are powerful near-godlike beings capable of immense power and magic. Many had bones to pick with other Planeswalkers and they fought often.

HUGE ANNOUNCEMENT TIME: Netflix and Wizards of the Coast are teaming up with Joe and Anthony Russo to make a Magic: The Gathering anime series and this teaser of Chandra has me asking QUESTIONS. pic.twitter.com/vljlEtl0Mq

However, that’s all the information that has been released on the adaptation for the moment.

Wizards tweeted their response on social media saying,

“Yes, it’s true! You’ve heard correctly- Magic is coming to Netflix! We couldn’t be more excited to partner with Joe and Anthony Russo to bring a new animated series about Planeswalkers to the streaming service.”

Now, this won’t be the first time a Russo has worked on a Wizards of the Coast owned property. Joe Russo directed two episodes of Community that revolved heavily around Dungeons and Dragons, the tabletop RPG also developed by Wizards.

While both the brothers’ backlog of films and TV shows may focus on live-action, this is not the first time they’ve created an animated cartoon.  Joe Russo was an Executive Producer for the D&D show HarmonQuests when it aired in 2016 and 2017.

There is no release date set for when the Magic: The Gathering show will air on Netflix.
