It’s no secret that Pokémon: The First Movie holds a special place in the hearts of the fans that grew up watching it, so it’s heartwarming to see it passed off to a new generation. And now, thanks to a recently-released trailer, we have even more of a look into how it’ll be managed.

The trailer for Mewtwo Strikes Back Evolution is set to the song ‘Let You Love Me’ by Rita Ora and shows off classic scenes from the original movie, albeit in their new CGI form. This includes the scene where Pikachu meets his clone and all the other Pokémon assembled by Mewtwo, the movie’s main antagonist. Another example is when Ash, Brock, and Misty are being led through Mewtwo’s lair by a brainwashed Nurse Joy.

Incredibly, one of the original movie’s most dramatic scenes – where Ash runs into the middle of the Pokémon battle – is even included in the trailer. One would think that a trailer would be careful when it comes to such spoiler-heavy content, but it isn’t so here. From what can be seen, the movie appears to be a shot-for-shot CGI remake of its source material. It remains to be seen whether new scenes will be included in the film.

Regardless, Japanese audiences will be able to catch Ash and co. on the big screen on July 12. However, It will debut at AnimeExpo 2019 on July 4.

This trailer follows in the wake of the trailer of Pokémon Masters from the end of June. This four-minute trailer looked like an anime film in itself – but was actually designed to promote the upcoming game for iOS and Android devices. It is the first collaboration between The Pokémon Company and DeNa. Only time will tell whether it will prove as popular as Pokémon Go.
