The quirky bird skateboarding game SkateBIRD has officially been fully funded on Kickstarter. The game involves skating around tiny skate-park type areas as a small bird, all the while the game makes countless bird puns and encourages you for trying your best.
The Kickstarter for SkateBIRD was set up by one Megan Fox (no, not that Megan Fox). Fox is the head of the studio Glass Bottom Games, who was previously responsible for indie games such as Spartan Fist and another Kickstarter success in Hot Tin Roof, as well as some work on LEGO Universe. The game is planned to have several skate parks for the various birds to skate around in, as well as the option to create your own bird skater, another similarity of many that the game shares with the Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater franchise (there is actually a character called “Tiny Hawk” planned to be included in the game).
All stretch goals for the project were met for the Kickstarter, which ended up passing with over 300% funding. This extra cash will now allow players access to a full photo mode in order to take Polaroid pictures of their bird, pet the bird to their heart’s content, and explore multiple side missions which will help to flesh out the rise of bird skateboarding’s popularity in-universe, as well as the success of “Thrusher” magazine.
For a bit more on the premise of the game, the Kickstarter page for SkateBIRD has this to say:
You’re a lonely lil’ bird, and your Big Friend has hung up their board for good. Their job sucks, and lately, they’re barely ever home to play with you. You’re gonna fix all that with the power of being a chill little skateboarding bird. You may be tiny, but the more you skate, the more following you get, the more the world of bird skating will open up. Birds will come check out your park, and maybe even host events! Above all else, skate birds try their best… Skate parks in SkateBIRD are, first and foremost: parks. Explorable, fun sandboxes to just chill and skate around in. You’ll find bowls to skate (sometimes with cereal in them!), hidden routes, and maybe even zoom through some doors birbs aren’t supposed to open. As you explore, you’ll find secret hats, clothing and more for your birb to try on, and different skateboards too (some with weird powers). You’ll even find secret mixtapes, which unlock more in-game tunes to skate to.
SkateBIRD is planned for release sometime in 2020 for PC, and you can currently wishlist the game on Steam.
