Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi will reportedly return to the Marvel brand once again. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Taika Waititi has signed a deal with Marvel to write and direct Thor 4.

For many, Thor: Ragnarok featured better comedy, outstanding visuals, and new interesting side characters compared to the previous two films. Not only that but it managed to serve as a soft-reboot not just for the series but for Thor as a character. Gone was the fish-out-of-water gimmick that had plagued the first two Thor movies. Now, we see a more light-hearted God of Thunder. Some loved this character change. Some didn’t. But, with a 93% on Rotten Tomatoes (and an 87% audience score), it’s easy to see why Marvel would like this director back in the fold.

Waititi not only directed Ragnarok but he recorded some excellent voice work for the movie as well. For those of you who don’t know, Waititi voiced Korg, the lovable and hilarious scene-stealer throughout Ragnarok. We have no idea what Thor 4 will be about or when it’ll even start production but hopefully, we will see Korg grace the big screen once again.

Unfortunately, this is more of a good news/bad news situation. While Waititi is returning to write and direct Thor 4, development on the adaptation of the anime Akira has reportedly been put on hold. The director had been attached to the project with a 2021 release date but Variety has reported that Waititi decided to shift focus to Thor 4 instead. The site states that those at Warner Bros. are hopeful that Waititi can return to production once he wraps up filming Thor 4.

What are your thoughts on this news? Are you glad to see Taika Waititi return for Thor 4? Are you disappointed to see that production on Akira has been halted? Let us know in the comments below!
