The Mortal Kombat reboot movie is well underway as a few more cast members have been announced. The new movie is already looking much different from its predecessor with a hard R rating and promises to be a more over the top affair. The movie’s writer has even promised game accurate Fatalities in a Tweet back in July.

Since it's already been stated by other members of the team, I'm gonna put this one to bed. MK WILL be R-Rated and for the first time EVER, FATALITIES will FINALLY be on the big screen (and no I'm not gonna say which ones) You'll just have to wait for the movie & see!!! ;) pic.twitter.com/aVTewH4t28

This, of course, has the Mortal Kombat community excited to see what else the new movie will produce, with the 1995 adaptation being one of the only movies to break the “video game curse” even if it was watered down for a PG-13 rating. Even though the ’95 movie was a hit and has developed a cult following, we won’t even discuss the abysmal sequel to the movie, Mortal Kombat Annihilation, which effectively killed the franchise until the web-series Mortal Kombat Rebirth.

With Joe Taslim (The Raid)  being added to the movie as Sub-Zero, fans have been eagerly awaiting word on who would join him on this endeavor.  Soon word started trickling down on who would be playing our beloved ultra-violent combatants. Mehcad Brooks as Jax Briggs, Tadanobu Asano as the god of thunder Raiden, Ludi Lin as Liu Kang, Sisi Stringer as Mileena, and Lewis Tan (whose role hasn’t been disclosed yet). Earlier this week, we’ve found out that four more roles have been filled as Jessica McNamee, an Australian actress known for her role in The Meg, has filled in the combat boots of Sonya Blade.

Taking the place of Sonya’s arch-nemesis Kano is Josh Lawson (House of Lies).  Most recently, Hiroyuki Sanada has been signed on to play Ed Boon’s main, Scorpion. Most people will recognize Sanada from his roles as Shingen in The Wolverine and Akihiko in Avengers: Endgame. Finally, rounding off this week’s big signings is Chin Han signing on to play the villainous shape-shifter Shang Tsung. Chin Han is no stranger to playing the bad guy as his most famous role is of Lau in The Dark Knight. The movie’s producer is set to be Horror maestro James Wan, who is known for Aquaman and The Conjuring movies. So far, it seems the Mortal Kombat reboot is well on its way to exciting audiences when it hits theatres in 2021.
