Canceled before it even began – Disney+’s proposed Muppets: Live Another Day has been tossed onto the scrapheap.
This reboot was to be written by actor Josh Gad and Once Upon A Time showrunners Adam Horowitz and Eddy Kitsis. But this sudden news has rendered their efforts irrelevant.
Gad confirmed the cancellation of Muppets: Live Another Day via a recent tweet. He cited “creative differences” although the split appeared amicable. Horowitz retweeted the actor, saying he was far more eloquent at telling the story than he.

As Gad explained in his short Twitter thread, Muppets: Live Another Day would have been set in the ’80s and was meant to be a six-episode limited series. Despite its cancellation, the actor hoped fans would eventually hear the songs for the series, penned by Bobby Lopez and Kristen-Anderson Lopez.
Still, this doesn’t mean Disney+ will be entirely Muppet-less. The streaming network will have Kermit and co. reunite in the unscripted series Muppets Now. The aforementioned series was announced at the recent D23 expo and premieres in 2020, set to feature celebrity guests.
The canceled series was going to be a sequel to Muppets Take Manhattan, which debuted in 1984. It would have focused on the group reuniting after Rowlf disappears.
The last major Muppets feature was 2014’s Muppets Most Wanted. The film starred Ricky Gervais, Ty Burrell, and Tina Fey in human roles while Muppets regulars Steve Whitmore and Eric Jacobson reprised their characters.
Disney+ promises to resurrect and continue popular franchises including Home Alone, Star Wars drama The Mandalorians as well as Marvel TV shows starring Loki the God of Mischief and Scarlett Witch and Vision. The platform offers a big chance for Disney to expand its popular franchises into the internet age.
