After Marvel Avengers: Endgame, it was thought to be a sure thing that we wouldn’t be seeing Tony Stark, played by Robert Downey Jr., again in the MCU. But, if recent rumors prove to be true, this may not be the case. Robert Downey Jr. could well reprise his role once more for Black Widow, which will be released next year.

However, Robert Downey Jr. did not return in the final cut of the movie. In an exclusive interview with Comicbook.com, “co-writer Eric Pearson revealed that one version of the film’s script had Stark appearing.” Fans initially thought they’d seen the last of Robert Downey Jr. in the MCU when Tony Stark tragically sacrificed himself to save the universe from Thanos in Endgame.

Robert Downey Jr. has played the character in several MCU films since 2008’s Iron Man. Alongside Chris Evans and Chris Hemsworth, he has become one of the most recognizable faces in the cinematic franchise.

Black Widow, which stars Scarlett Johansson as the titular super-spy, will take place shortly after Civil War. The movie will pit the red-haired heroine against the nefarious Taskmaster, a villain who can mimic the abilities of his opponents. David Harbour and Rachel Weisz will co-star.
