Following today’s PlayStation โ€˜State of Playโ€™ presentation, The Last of Us Part IIย was finally given a new trailer, which revealed key information as well as a release date. Over the past months, fans have been craving a reveal for developer Naughty Dogโ€™s new title. That craving was satisfied with this trailer, which you can see below:

The Last of Us Part II โ€“ Release Date Reveal Trailer | PS4

The Last of Us Part II will finally be released on February 21st, 2020. Originally revealed in the PlayStation Experience event back in December 2016, the wait is finally over. While story elements are scarce, from promotional material, itโ€™s suspected that the majority of the game will take place in the shoes of an older Ellie. Following on from the events of the first game, the tale is set to explore a darker side to Ellie. The question of whether the original main protagonist, Joel would be returning was answered as well. Shown briefly at the end of the trailer was a tired and worn looking first glimpse at his return. No doubt part two will explore the poignant relationship between the two following the first game’s shocking ending.

The trailer gave us our most visceral look atย The Last of Us Part IIย yet. Starting with a melancholic look at how the post-apocalyptic world has aged, the trailer then ramps up to showcase the brutal combat and set-pieces, showing us how far Ellie has come. Providing us with the most story information so far, itโ€™s evident that February canโ€™t come soon enough.

October is set to have The Last of Us Remastered as one of PlayStation Plusโ€™s free games. This will give any newcomers ample time to experience the groundbreaking original game. Often hailed as one of the greatest games of all time, it features the main game plus all of the downloadable content. This includes the single-player expansion Left Behind, featuring a younger Ellie and her life previous to the campaign. Also included is the host of multiplayer content that was delivered post-launch.

Joining the line-up of other major PlayStation exclusive releases such asย Death Stranding andย Final Fantasy VII Remake, there areย some exciting months ahead.ย The Last of Us Part IIย is set to be one of the most anticipated titles of 2020. When it releases on February 21st, 2020, it will surely be greeted with immense anticipation.
