Kevin Feige, president of Marvel Studios since 2007, will now have greater responsibilities. The man behind the Marvel Cinematic Universe curtain is receiving a new title. Feige has been named the new Chief Creative Officer for Marvel. This means he will now have control over decisions in film, television, and more.
In 2015, Marvel began a corporate restructuring and split Marvel Studios from Marvel Entertainment. Kevin Feige would then report to the head of Disney Studios for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Meanwhile, Marvel Television and Marvel Animation remained under Marvel Entertainment. This is what caused Marvel to separate its Netflix series’ starring characters such as Daredevil and Jessica Jones from the MCU. These shows were later canceled. While fans are excited for all the Marvel content coming to Disney Plus+, many wish to see the Man Without Fear and his allies return to live-action.
Kevin Feige: Creative Possibilities
Now, as Chief Creative Officer, Kevin Feige oversees many critical aspects for Marvel. This includes television, animation, and reportedly comics. Therefore, it stands to reason that he could begin to reintegrate and/or develop new series for any canceled Marvel projects. Any plans for the Netflix characters would have to wait though. Marvel cannot reboot those properties until 2020 at the earliest.
Despite this promotion, Kevin Feige does not have total control over everything that has to do with Marvel. Many people such as Dan Buckley and Ike Perlmutter remain in key positions within the company. However, with Feige now in control of both film and television, the opportunity to create a larger narrative is there. The Marvel shows have dealt with the fallout of the MCU before. For example, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. was affected by Captain America: The Winter Soldier. In the first season, Phil Coulson and his team deal with the aftermath of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s collapse. The next season shows Coulson working to rebuild the organization.
What will happen now is anybody’s guess? Kevin Feige has certainly helped create an enjoyable saga already. Hopefully, his actions can help assuage any doubts of those who are unsure about Marvel’s future. How do you feel about Feige’s promotion?
