Warner Bros. is laughing all the way the bank as the clown prince’s hit film, Joker, has broken another record. The flick is now the most profitable film of all time.

The movie’s budget is about $62.5 million and is expected to gross over $957 million by this weekend. The previous record was held by another well-known clown, Jim Carrey. The Mask, a 1994 comic film, was made on a budget of $23 million before going on to bank $351 million.

This news comes after the milestone of Joker becoming the highest-grossing R-rated film, beating out fellow comic book film Deadpool and its sequel.

The Past and Future of Joker
Joker

While the Rotten Tomatoes score sits at 69%, audiences keep showing up every week to catch the emaciated sociopath dance on some stairs. In fact, those stairs which have become so famous it’s become a tourist attraction in New York.

Joker released this past October and was directed by Todd Phillips, who has mainly shot comedies in the past. Martin Scorsese had been attached to the film for years before stepping back from the director’s chair.

There was a lot of controversy surrounding the movie ranging from heavy police presence at screenings to the film outright being banned in some places. Rumors and talk of a potential sequel have been going on for weeks now. Only time will tell if Joaquin Phoenix will return to the role.

Keep that webpage refreshed as we’ll keep you updated on the latest and how many dump trucks of cash it’ll take to get Phoenix back for the sequel.

What’s your favorite iteration of the Joker? What was the best comic film of 2019? What R-rated adaptation would you like to see next? Leave your comments!
