For any of you who thought the launch of Disney+ would be the death of Netflix, you might want to think again. Just one day after the House of Mouse launched its highly anticipated streaming service, Netflix made a bold announcement. The company will be teaming up with Nickelodeon to produce original animated films and television shows. This will be part of a multi-year deal.

Announced in a press release, the two companies will create new content based on existing IPs as well as entirely new ones. It looks like the folks at Disney aren’t the only ones who will be making money off of our childhoods. The press release mentions upcoming specials based on The Loud House and Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. But it doesn’t go into detail about what other IPs will be revisited. Nor does it say how long exactly the deal will last. It does, however, feature a lot of excitement from those involved. Netflix vice president of original animation, Melissa Cobb, had this to say:

“Nickelodeon has generated scores of characters that kids love, and we look forward to telling wholly original stories that re-imagine and expand on the worlds they inhabit. We’re thrilled to continue collaborating with Brian Robbins, Ramsey Naito, and the creative team at Nickelodeon in new ways as we look to find fresh voices and bring bold stories to our global audience on Netflix.”

As Cobb says, this deal doesn’t come completely out of the left field. Netflix and Nickelodeon previously partnered for the terrific Rocko’s Modern Life: Static Cling. They also brought us Invader Zim: Enter the Florpus. Then there’s that remake of Avatar: The Last Airbender coming. But as that will be live-action, it probably has nothing to do with this animation deal.

Are you excited to see Nickelodeon revisit more of their popular IPs on Netflix? Let us know in the comments below.
