Absolute Carnage has been a bloodbath involving heroes trying to take down the eponymous villain. Cletus Kasady is hellbent on awakening the symbiote god Knull and will not stop until every host’s codex is his. Naturally, Venom teams up with Spider-Man and various other heroes to keep Carnage from completing his goal. However, the last issue of the event concludes the story while simultaneously foreshadowing an even greater battle.
Absolute Carnage #5 Spoilers
Previously, the Venom symbiote bonded with Bruce Banner who turned into the Hulk and fought Carnage. When the battle took a turn for the worse, Eddie Brock bonded with codices removed from the Avengers and flew off in pursuit of the crazed villain. Now, the new Venom faces off against Carnage, who has absorbed Eddie’s previous symbiote. Everything that writer Donny Cates has been building up to since his start on Venom culminates in a battle between titans.
Blow after blow is traded between the two hated enemies. Eddie wants to end the fight to save his son Dylan and the people of Earth. But Carnage is no pushover. Furthermore, a symbiote-controlled Norman Osborn leads drones toward Dylan and Harry Osborn’s son. Eddie realizes that there is only one chance to survive. Reluctantly, he kills Carnage, putting an end to his rampage.
However, things are not as cut and dry as they seem. As the drones continue to fight, Eddie absorbs Carnage’s symbiote and orders the army to cease their attack. Little does he know that this is what Cletus Kasady wanted. Eddie’s bonding with the symbiotes has completed Carnage’s mission, reconnecting the hive mind to Knull’s prison of Klyntar. Knull awakens, escaping from his bonds effortlessly and assuming control of every symbiote on Klyntar. Now, with an army at his beck and call, Knull sets out for Earth.
