Indie developers Onion Soup Interactive just announced that for a week all profits from sales of its Nippon Marathon game on Steam will go towards helping the wildlife impacted by the Australian bush-fires.

Gamers purchasing the game between January 7th and 14th will see their money being used to contain the damage provoked by the recent fire catastrophe.

Onion Soup Interactive said the initiative will hopefully provide substantial support for the wildlife charities and responders bravely risking their lives to keep Australia’s wildlife safe from the spreading of aggressive bush fires across the country.

“It’s sad to see what’s happening in Australia,” said Amy Madin, community manager at Onion Soup Interactive. “It’s sad to see homes destroyed, livelihoods ruined and animals dying from the fires.”

“We must protect the wildlife,” she added, “with fires destroying lands the size of Scotland, they cannot survive without our help.”

The fires have been raging since November 2019, caused by record-breaking temperatures and months of grave draught.

At least 24 people have died in the fires so far and more than 6.3 million hectares of bush, forest and parks have been burned.

All the profits raised from the sales of the Nippon Marathon this week will be donated to the NSW Wildlife Information Rescue and Education Service (WIRES), who “actively rehabilitate and preserve Australian wildlife and inspire others to do the same.”

The game is an atypical physics-heavy racer, in which players compete against each other to win various runs.

It is the last product of Onion Soup Interactive, an independent studio composed of Amy Madin together with the developer Andy Madin.

You can buy Nippon Marathon on Steam at this link for $11.99, or you can donate directly to WIRES here. Don’t forget though, your money will only go to the charity if you buy the game starting tomorrow and until the 14th.
