This month has been full of special announcements for Critical Role. From the return of All Work, No Play to their own Dungeons and Dragons campaign guide, 2020 is starting off strong. January comes to a close with a new reveal. The first non-fiction book from the cast is currently available for pre-order, and it comes with a unique opportunity for fans!
Created in partnership with Penguin Random House, it will be available at bookstores on September 15th, 2020. Titled The World of Critical Role, it goes into the history of what started this game between friends, and what goes on in the daily operations of their business. Author Liz Marsham is the lead author, as well as the cast. It also features over 100 illustrations by Oliver Barrett and photography by Ray Kachatorian.
The book can be pre-ordered right now at criticalrolebooks.com. For fans based in the United States and over 18 years of age, there is also an exciting opportunity. Those who pre-order the book will get their names inside as a calligram – which is words arranged to form a picture.
The final cover design is not revealed yet, and aside from a few photograph previews, the inside contents are a secret. We do know it features new interviews from the cast and goes into depth about the adventures of Vox Machina. It will explore the journey of success for Critical Role. It also will highlight works from the fans, dubbed as ‘Critters,’ with their cosplay, creations, and fanart.
The hardcover is set to sell for $35 USD. It contains 288 pages. It will also be available as an ebook for $14.99 and as an audiobook for $20 that runs for 480 minutes. An excerpt from Penguin Random House regarding the book states:
From its unassuming beginnings as a casual home game between friends to the role-playing phenomenon it is today, Critical Role has become the stuff of legend. These pages chronicle how a circle of friends who all happen to be talented voice actors built the most-watched tabletop role-playing livestream of all time.”
