The Crysis series was considered one of gaming’s greatest when it comes to first-person shooters. You had Crysis 1 which sparked the infamous “Can it run Crysis?” meme, and two games following it. The two following may not have been great Crysis games, but they were regarded as solid titles on their own. The series itself though has been gone for seven years now and many miss it, including me. Thanks to some recent teasers though, it looks like we might not have to miss it anymore.
Two primary teasers are sparking the potential of a series revival. The first, and less obvious one, is a video released several months ago by Crytek. The video shows off the technology of their CRYENGINE system, but something interesting happens near the end of the video. If you watch from this point, you’ll notice a familiar location. It looks like the Lingshan Islands, the location for the original Crysis game and where the alien invasion began. It looks updated too with way better lighting effects and graphics than the original game. You also hear the sound of the Nanosuit cloaking which seems to further allude to a possible new game or remaster.
Despite this, many people brushed it off at the time considering it could very well just be showing off the CRYENGINE updates. What happened today though all but confirms suspicions. The official Crysis account last tweeted on December 13th, 2016 and hasn’t tweeted since. That was, until today when the account tweeted “RECEIVING DATA”. Of course, don’t take that as definitive proof that something’s happening but it looks all but confirmed.

This is really exciting news for both Crysis fans and gamers in general. A possible remaster or remake of the original game is an exciting prospect, and it’ll be interesting to see where it goes.
