Monstrum will arrive digitally on the PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch on May 22. However, the physical release has been postponed due to COVID-19, and as a result, will arrive at a later date.

Monstrum pits players on an empty cargo ship with no prior knowledge of how they got there. They’ll need to search for clues around the ship, and at the same time, keep their wits about them while hunted by a lethal predator. But it gets worse. Naturally, the next question is…, how?

Monstrum will arrive digitally on PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch on May 22.

Well, the cargo ship, for one, is procedurally generated. It’ll ensure players remain lost within the maze of rooms and corridors. As for the monster, this is where it becomes tricky. Monstrum will allow the predator to randomize throughout the game. It leaves a player at a serious disadvantage. They won’t know what to expect if the monster is to show.

They’ll only know when they’re running from it.

Each predator has its own set of strengths, weaknesses, and special abilities. So in the end, it’ll come down to a player’s abilities to outsmart their opponent as they seek to survive, and more importantly, find a way off the cargo ship. In the event a player dies, it’s permanent, meaning they’ll need to begin all over again.

So, to get the better of the predator on their tail, players will need to distract, hide, and find ways to slow down the monster, all the while running to keep themselves alive.

Monstrum is a partnership between SOEDESCO, the Rotterdam based publishers, (responsible for digital and physical titles across multiple platforms), and Scottish development studio, Team Junkfish.
