The Last of Us Part II leaker wasn’t – as most people assumed – a disgruntled developer from Naughty Dog. Sony announced on Friday it knows who did divulge details about the story for the upcoming game and it wasn’t someone associated with either Sony nor Naughty Dog.

Games Industry Biz was the first to report the latest turn in what has become quite the soap opera involving one of the most anticipated sequels of the current generation of games. Sony also said there was more than one person responsible for The Past of Us Part II leaks, though the company is keeping its lips shut on who they are. How the leakers got their hands on details about TLOU2 hasn’t been made public either.

The company says it cannot divulge those responsible yet as the investigation is still ongoing. Since it has said it knows the primary offenders don’t work for it or Naughty Dog, the investigation is most likely looking into how the information fell into the leakers’ hands.

The first details about The Last of Us Part II started hitting the web last weekend. While originally thought to be false, at least some of the leaks were later confirmed to be accurate. Fans of TLOU2 have since been going to extreme lengths to avoid having the game spoiled for them.

Not long after the spoilers hit the interwebs, Sony and Naughty Dog announced a new release date for the title. Originally expected later this spring, the game was “delayed indefinitely” due to the coronavirus outbreak.

Most believed the new release date would be in the fall, attempting to wait out the pandemic entirely. It now appears both companies are trying to mitigate any damage that might have come from the leaks, by getting the much-anticipated title out as soon as possible.

The Last of Us Part II is due to hit the PS4 on June 19, 2020
