Temper your swords and wear your most bucket-like helmet – we’re returning to the medieval era with Chivalry 2.

Following on from 2012’s Chivalry: Medieval Warfare, Chivalry 2 will continue the hack-and-slash multiplayer gameplay of its predecessor, with the title once again under development by Torn Banner Studios.

Announced in an enthusiastic press release, Publisher Tripwire is making it quite clear that players will be able to play against each other regardless of what console they’re playing the game on. The game is being released for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC (via the Epic Games Store). Along with that, the game will feature cross-play, allowing you to chop your opponent’s heads off regardless of what console they own. This is being touted as one of the game’s major selling points.

Chivalry 2

Chivalry 2‘s major-scale, high-visual battles are inspired by Hollywood medieval action films and is brought to life by Unreal Engine 4. The comparison the press release makes is that of Game of Thrones’s ‘The Battle of the Bastards’. What’s more, you can fight these battles using a brand new subclass system – the four base classes expand into a variety of subclasses with an arsenal of unique weapons and support items.

You will also be able to do battle with the appropriate Medieval gear – Ballistae, Catapults, Trebuchet, Battering Rams, Mantlets, Spike Traps, Siege Ladders, and more. You can operate all this equipment with your fully-customizable hero, whose skin tone, face imperfections, facial hair, face paint, and more can be altered to your satisfaction.

In a quirky Monty Python-esque twist, your knight can still keep on fighting even after losing a limb or being set on fire. This should make for plenty of hilarious scenarios in an otherwise brutally realistic hack-and-slash action game.

Are you pumped for Chivalry 2? Did you play the first one and if so, did you like it? Let us know in the comments below!
