Warner Bros. has delayed Christopher Nolan’s upcoming Tenet again, this time to August 12th, 2020.

Its original release date was July 17th. But Warner Bros. delayed it once to give theaters more time to reopen. Now, there has been a spike of COVID-19 cases in major cities like New York and Los Angeles. Those cities provide a big portion of ticket sales. So it’s best to wait and see how they handle the surge of new cases. In a quote from The Hollywood Reporter’s coverage, a spokesperson for Warner Bros. had this to say:

“Warner Bros. is committed to bringing Tenet to audiences in theaters, on the big screen, when exhibitors are ready and public health officials say it’s time. In this moment what we need to be is flexible, and we are not treating this as a traditional movie release. We are choosing to open the movie mid-week to allow audiences to discover the film in their own time, and we plan to play longer, over an extended play period far beyond the norm, to develop a very different yet successful release strategy.”

THR reports that Disney’s Mulan is also expected to receive another delay. The live-action reimagining was meant to launch in March before it was pushed back to July 24th. Both Mulan and Tenet would have been the only Summer blockbusters in theaters. Disney also recently delayed its plans to reopen Disneyland due to the rising number of COVID-19 cases in California.

In other Christopher Nolan news, Fortnite will stream one of three of the director’s movies starting today. Which movie you can watch depends on your region. The director teamed up with Epic Games last month to reveal the latest trailer for Tenet.

Tenet stars John David Washington, Robert Pattinson, Elizabeth Debicki, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Michael Caine, and Kenneth Branagh.
