Big changes are coming for fans of Freddy Fazbear. The creator of Five Nights at Freddy’s will help fund games made by fans of the horror series.
In a post to the Five Nights at Freddy’s Reddit, creator Scott Cawthon announced the Fazbear Fanverse Initiative. This initiative will help fund fan games made by the top creators of Fight Nights at Freddy’s fan games.
Five Nights at Freddy’s Creator Gives Back By Funding Fan Games
Five Nights at Freddy’s first released in 2014, and since then has become one of the most popular horror series of all time. Set in an imitation Chuck E. Cheese type restaurant, players must use lights and the restaurant’s camera to survive against the homicidal animatronics. These games will range from spinoff games set in the Fight Nights at Freddy’s to a reimagining of the popular horror game.
In the post, Cawthon explains that he will not assist in the development, just to provide support and funds. These games will available for free online, but also sold in bundles for console and mobile. After that, Cawthon also hopes to make merchandise off these fan games as well.
The initial lineup of fan games to release as a part of this initiative include Five Nights at Candy’s 4, The Joy of Creation: Ignited Collection, Popgoes Evergreen, One Night at Flumpty’s 3 and a reimagining of the first Five Nights at Freddy’s.
Fan Games Will Come to Consoles and PC
Other fan games will require more development to remove copyrighted content or remake entirely to become available on consoles and mobile.
To see fan game creators get this kind of financial support is heartening, as these creators are usually not viewed on the same level as other game developers. Hopefully, with this support, they can create something with broader ambitions. To read Cawthon’s post and learn more about the Fazbear Fanverse Initiative, click here.
