Disney Dreamlight Valley‘s newest update is live, and fans of the A Rift in Time DLC finally have new content. The game’s first paid expansion was released back in December, giving fans a brand new map and a new story centered around Jafar. Act I followed the player as they met Gaston, Rapunzel, and Eve and uncovered the Cave of Wonders. Act II, released with yesterday’s update, sees players race to find the all-powerful Spark of Imagination before Jafar – and it all kicks off in the Sunken Ruins quest.
How to Complete “The Sunken Ruins” Quest in Disney Dreamlight Valley
In order to start “The Sunken Ruins” quest and Act II of Disney Dreamlight Valley: A Rift in Time, you’ll need to have completed Act I of the expansion first. Act I concludes with the player uncovering Jafar‘s evil plans for the Spark of Imagination, which sends Merlin into a research frenzy. If you’ve already completed Act I, “The Sunken Ruins” quest will begin automatically so long as you’ve completed the level 2 friendship quests for Gaston, Rapunzel, and Eve. The quest tells you that Merlin is deep in his research, and you’d better wait a bit before going to see him – because four months wasn’t enough time, apparently.
Still, after around half an hour of real-world time has passed, the “Sunken Ruins” quest objective will change, telling you to go see Merlin in his library. The library can usually be found in the Peaceful Meadow, and when you visit Merlin there, he’ll explain that the Spark of Imagination probably has something to do with the Sunken Ruins of Eternity Isle, but he needs you to find some Flickers to be sure.
Where to Find Flickers in Disney Dreamlight Valley
Merlin will ask you to use your Royal Hourglass to uncover something called Flickers, providing you with the following clues on where to look:
- In the Moana, Ratatouille, or Wall-E Realms.
- In Dreamlight Valley where villagers first arrive.
- On Eternity Isle, in a similar place.
The Realms are the most obvious places to start. You need to find three Flickers in the Moana, Ratatouille, or Wall-E Realms, and you do this by visit each Realm or using your Hourglass to find multiple Flickers in each realm.
Next, you’ll need to find four Flickers in Dreamlight Valley where “villagers first arrive” – the Plaza. Use your Hourglass to uncover the Flickers around the wishing well where you take selfies with new villagers.
The last clue has you looking for “a similar place” to the Plaza, but this time on Eternity Isle – head for the Docks, where you first arrived on the Isle. You’ll need to find four Flickers here as well, and when you’re done, bring all of the Flickers back to Merlin in his library. Talk to Merlin, and he’ll realize that you and your Royal Hourglass is the key to uncovering the Sunken Ruins of Eternity Isle.
The Sunken Ruins – Photograph Guide
To find the Sunken Ruins, travel to the Docks of Eternity Isle and head west over the wooden bridge. You’ll see a half-sunken stone bridge leading to a door between two waterfalls, and Merlin will be waiting for you. Talk to him, and a short cutscene will trigger where you use the Royal Hourglass to raise the bridge and open the door to the no-longer-Sunken Ruins. Follow Merlin inside, and you’ll discover a stone chamber with a trap door surrounded by three more rooms. Merlin asks you to take pictures of the three rooms while he examines the trap door. In order to complete the quest, you’ll need to take pictures of the following objects:
- The stone pedestal in the room to the left (with the glowing sun)
- The music notes in the room to the right
- The ancient computer in the room across from the entrance
After you’ve taken the pictures, talk to Merlin again. He’ll explain that the objects are signs that you’re going to need help from some of the other villagers: Gaston for the stone pedestal, Rapunzel for the music notes, and Eve for the ancient computer. Three more quests will automatically start – “Hero Pose”, “All the Right Notes”, and “Does Not Compute.” You’ll have to complete all three before unlocking the secret of the ruins, but “The Sunken Ruins” quest in Disney Dreamlight Valley is officially complete.
