Much like many press conferences and events from earlier this year, 2020’s Emmy ceremony went digital. Jimmy Kimmel was on hosting duty with many stars appearing via broadcasts from their own homes. The show celebrates the best of the best from the world of TV from the past year. There were plenty of surprise wins, such as the sweep of Schitt’s Creek. Many Creative Arts Emmy Awards were given out before the show, such as Rick and Morty’s Oustanding Animated Progam Emmy win. For the most high-profile awards though, you can check out the winners below.

This year’s Emmy Awards saw a few notable records broken. Schitt’s Creek became the first show to ever win all seven major comedy awards. That includes the two wins at the Creative Arts Emmys, which makes the total nine. It beat The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel for the record of Emmys won by a single season of a comedy series. Amazon’s series previously held the title at eight.
Zendaya’s win for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series is a definite cause for celebration. Not only is it earned, but she is now the youngest person to take home the award at 24-years-old. She is also only the second Black actress to win. In addition to Zendaya, the Television Academy nominated more Black actors than any previous year. 35 of the 102 acting nominees were of Black actors. What are your thoughts on this year’s winners?
