After many months of waiting and Rocket Pass grinding, players are now able to play the newest form of Rocket League. Going free to play on all platforms is a big step for Psyonix where only a year ago, Epic Games decided to buy Psyonix in full. They’re building out their brand further by adding the title to their free-to-play, games as a service model. With the update now in player’s hands, and the server crashes behind them; new players can expect a great selection of classic and unique items to unlock and earn.

With a whole new challenge system to back their update to the item system, the plethora of unlockable cosmetics, new and old items alike, is very impressive. The selection they have chosen are some of the fan-favorite items returning from the vault. These can be earned either in the premium rocket pass or by completing weekly challenges to earn new drops with the mix of items created for this relaunch of Rocket League overall. It’s certainly a good time to be either a long time fan or a free-to-play newcomer, as these old school items are getting new ways of getting colored and tradable versions to build up a robust inventory.

The new free to play update is available to users who already play the title on any console and PC platform. Despite the game moving to the Epic Store and off of Valve’s Steam, Rocket League will still receive full updates and playability despite moving to Epic’s servers. While the game is still experiencing some hiccups in performance, the update has been rolled out and will let gamers earn rewards and start facing new players on all platforms when Epic’s servers are online again.
