When Dexter came to an end in 2013, fans were more than a little disappointed by the show’s ending. After years of begging, Showtime is finally giving the fans what they want: Dexter will be returning for a limited run of ten episodes next year.

As of this writing, there has been no official word on the plot. It is still unclear as to whether it will pick up at the original finale or if they will try to rewrite the ending. However, Michael C. Hall will be reprising his role as the infamous serial killer, and executive producer Clyde Phillips will also be back to act as the show’s front runner. The news officially broke on the Dexter‘s Twitter page with a short teaser trailer. Check it out for yourself here.

Showtime president Gary Levine commented on Dexter’s return:

Dexter is such a special series, both for its millions of fans and for Showtime, as this breakthrough show helped put our network on the map many years ago. We would only revisit this unique character if we could find a creative take that was truly worthy of the brilliant, original series. Well, I am happy to report that Clyde Phillips and Michael C. Hall have found it, and we can’t wait to shoot it and show it to the world!

Dexter’s return doesn’t have an official release date, but Showtime is aiming for a Fall 2021 release. In the mean time, all eight seasons can be seen on Netflix, Hulu or Amazon Prime.
