Toss a coin to your Witcher – especially during these trying times. Deadline reports that Netflix has once again halted production for the second season of The Witcher series. It is said that four people on set tested positive for COVID-19 and that in response, Netflix will “carry out an isolated round of testing of everyone involved in the show.”

According to Deadline, the filming at Arborfield Studios will resume once Netflix is confident that the studio is “fully safe.” Also, it is mentioned that the four people who tested positive have been “isolated” and are not “among the lead cast.”

The Witcher’s Studio Filming

Around a week ago, England was plunged into a second lockdown after the United Kingdom recorded an increase of over 20,000 cases in 24 hours. This forced The Witcher production team to temporarily pause the on-location shoot in the North of England and continue filming in-studio.

In the days after, Henry Cavill (Geralt of Rivia) wrote on his Instagram page that it was “time for [him] to depart Yorkshire and the extraordinary North, and head back down South to continue shooting [The Witcher] in the studio.”

Many fans shared their excitement for the next season, and others (me included) were hopeful that this would be the only hindrance in the filming. Alas, this was not the case.

The Witcher Season Two: Scheduled Release & Delays

This was not the first time that the production of The Witcher has been halted. Due to the steady increase of COVID-19 cases in the U.K. last March, the filming for the series was paused for two weeks. Indeed, Netflix’s The Witcher and many other shows have been heavily impacted by the pandemic. It is reassuring to know that the safety of the people involved in such shows is the number one priority to the studios.

The second season of The Witcher was set to release in 2021. With the current situation in the U.K. and the rest of Europe, we will have to wait and see if this gets affected in any way.

We can always wait for the return of The White Wolf. Until then, there’s always the games and books to give us our mutagenic potion fix.

What did you think of the first season of The Witcher? Any comparisons to the games and novels? Let me know in the comments!
