Netflix’s hugely popular superhero flick The Umbrella Academy has officially been renewed for a third season! This comes amid rumors that the Hargreaves family would not return to our screens again. The new batch of episodes will begin filming early next year!

Filming of The Umbrella Academy season 3 is slated to take place in February 2021, coronavirus permitting. For those concerned about returning actors; don’t be. All our favorite members from the family are slated to return. These include Aidan Gallagher (Five), Ellen Page (Vanya), Tom Hopper (Luther), Emmy Raver-Lampman (Allison), David Castañeda (Diego), Robert Sheehan (Klaus), and Justin H Min (Ben Hargreeves). It is also confirmed that 10 hour-long episodes have been ordered, bringing the total up to 30.

The exciting news was confirmed by The Umbrella Academy’s official Twitter page. “Oh my god! We’re back! Again! It’s official,” it wrote. “Production for S3 of The Umbrella Academy begins in February”.

Behind the scenes, there are no major changes for The Umbrella Academy. Steve Blackman will return as showrunner after serving in that role for the previous two seasons. Onboard to co-executive produce are Jeff F King, Mike Richardson, Keith Goldberg, and Jesse McKeown. Original comic book creator Gerard Way and artist Gabriel Bá will also co-executive produce.

It’s likely that season 3 will seek to answer the major twist that occurred in the season 2 finale. After the Hargreaves return to their own timeline following their time in the 1960s, they realize that all is not as it was. In fact, it’s quite the opposite. They return to their childhood home to find that the Umbrella Academy never existed. Instead, there is the Sparrow Academy. To make things stranger, Ben is one a member of the Sparrow Academy despite being dead in the other timeline. We assume something in the timeline has messed up yet again, and the Hargreaves siblings will need to once more work together to fix it.

All will be revealed when season 3 of The Umbrella Academy releases. What do you think will happen? Let me know in the comments! Both seasons one and two are currently available for streaming on Netflix.
