Remembering Chadwick Boseman

Today, the Walt Disney Co. is remembering the former Black Panther actor with a special opening credit sequence in honor of his legacy and birthday. On Disney+, the beginning credit roll for the Black Panther film shares images and clips of the late Chadwick Boseman. Stylized with purple throughout, we are given various snippets of the actor interacting with colleagues and performing on set for the Marvel films. The respectful montage was shared on social media today, with a Twitter post reading:

Long live the King. #WakandaForever”

The credits pay a humble homage to Chadwick Boseman’s work as King T’Challa/Black Panther in the MCU. This comes after the recent passing of the actor, who kept the unfortunate news of his diagnosis a secret from the public eye. The shocking and unexpected revelation packed a sore punch into the emotional hearts of his family, friends, and fans. Boseman also continued to work as he received treatment for his illness.

Chadwick Boseman 42 Black Panther

Chadwick Boseman got his big break with 2013’s 42, where he played revered baseball player Jackie Robinson. He soon rose to prominence when he was cast as T’Challa, the Black Panther, for 2016’s Captain America: Civil War. His inclusion with the Marvel universe was elevated in his continued Black Panther role alongside the Avengers in Infinity War and Endgame. He went on to portray Thurgood Marshall in Marshall, and he gained further recognition for his role in Spike Lee’s Da 5 Bloods. Boseman’s final performances will be Levee in the newly limited released film Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom (which will also be available to stream through Netflix starting December 18, 2020); and as a hybrid of T’Challa and Star-Lord in Marvel’s upcoming animated anthology series What If…?.

Chadwick Boseman’s birthday is November 29, 1976. He would’ve turned 44 today. Rest in peace to the King himself.
