2020 might not have been a great year for Marvel movies. However, on the comic side of things, there is an entirely different story. One of the great Marvel Comics success stories this year was their collaboration with Tsuburaya Productions to bring readers The Rise of Ultraman. Thankfully, due to the success of that run, we get to see the Japanese hero in action again in a new series coming in March!
The same creative team behind The Rise of Ultraman is set to return for the new 5-issue series titled The Trials of Ultraman. The unchanged team consists of writers Kyle Higgins, Mat Groom, and artist Francesco Manna.

Following from The Rise of Ultraman, the new series will continue hot on the heels of the previous series, after Ultraman managed to change the course of a global catastrophe, at a price. The new series will explore the many repercussions and consequences of what went down, bringing his biggest challenge yet. The official announcement reads as follows:
Much of the populace regard their defenders with suspicion. Enemies hide in plain sight, and even those closest to Shin Hayata don’t necessarily trust the Giant of Light. But at last, a long-thought-lost comrade has mysteriously returned! The RISE is over. The training wheels are off, and the stakes have never been higher.”
Higgins and Groom followed that up with their own statement:
Now, in The Trials of Ultraman, we get to really explore this new universe– the consequences of decisions made in Rise, and the possibilities (as well as tensions) of a newly-fantastical global community. The introduction is over… now, we’ll be diving into the real meat of our Ultraman saga. And the stakes and scale will only continue to grow.”
Superhero comics aside, Marvel Comics also recently announced that they were expanding the Alien universe with a new series. Clearly, with tons of exciting projects in the pipeline, these are exciting times indeed.
