It’s been a long while since we last saw a Marvel Cinematic Universe movie on the big screen. Sadly, it appears as if we’ll be waiting a little while longer. According to a recent report by Variety, Disney is considering delaying their upcoming movie Black Widow for yet another time.

Originally slated to premiere in May 2020, the Scarlett Johansson movie has seen multiple delays. In 2020, it moved from May to November, and now it sits in May of this year. However, Variety claims the movie will likely suffer a similar fate to what occurred in 2020. The report also predicts that the superhero flick will ultimately be moved onto Disney Plus for streaming. A move like this would see it get a similar release to Wonder Woman 1984, which was available on HBO Max alongside its theatre release.

Per Variety:

“As for ‘Black Widow’, expect the 2020 delay treatment should the theater situation not improve over the spring.  Since it’s the first 2020s film from the franchise that propelled the studio to a now fictional-seeming $11 billion global gross in 2019, another delay before a last-ditch Disney+ release is more likely to occur.”

Marvel Studios' Black Widow | Official Trailer

Black Widow is the first standalone film following Johansson’s Natasha Romanoff. Set after the events of Captain America: Civil War, it sees Natasha team-up with her old friends from Russia to take down Taskmaster, a villain known for his ability to replicate powers he observes. The movie boasts a great cast, including Florence Pugh, Rachel Weisz, David Harbour, and Yolanda Lynes. What’s more, there are rumors Robert Downey Jr could reprise his beloved role as Tony Stark, aka Iron Man.

Several movies could see another delay this year. There are no doubt streaming services will provide an excellent alternative for movies to premiere.

Would you like to see the Black Widow movie arrive early to stream on Disney Plus? Do you think it will even see another delay? Let me know in the comments below!
