The new F9 movie is set to continue its hot opening weekend start for the Fast & Furious franchise. Since Covid-19 hit, we have not seen a box office draw like F9 had when it opened for a whopping $70 million on its opening weekend.
According to Variety, the Justin Lin directed, ninth installment in the Fast & Furiousย franchise is set to rake in $32 million this upcoming Fourth of July weekend. Which will bring F9‘s total to $126 million in a little over a week. If they break the $100 million mark, which they likely will, they will join A Quiet Place II and Godzilla vs. Kongย as the only films to have broken that benchmark since Covid-19 hit.
On a broader note, Universal seems to be sitting pretty with two other movies premiering this Fourth of July weekend; The Boss Baby: Family Business and The Forever Purgeย will joinย F9 this weekend. They are expected to take the second and third spots for this weekend’s box office. Although they may not reach the same numbers as the new F9 movie had, they should still see a decent boon with things starting to normalize.
