With the latest and most exciting expansion, The Taken King, hitting Destiny players this Tuesday, some new details on the Red Bull exclusive strike have been released. Obtainable only by purchasing and redeeming one of the specially marked cans of Red Bull, it will be released to players alongside The Taken King. The quest may also be downloadable for the rest of us non-energy drink consumers down the road via DLC. The fireteam in question were required to beat modified versions of both the level 40 “Shield Brothers” and “The Sunless Cell” strike.
From what details we have gathered about Destiny‘s newest mission, players will be required to take out six specified shriekers before moving onto a boss fight with an Unhallowed Thrall known fittingly as “The Unstable Core.” After the boss and shriekers have fallen, an 18 minute timer began for the fireteam as they tackled the “Shield Brothers” strike. Now for completing such a strike, players will earn a consumable item to upgrade the SR-O Sparrow, which is a sparrow received at the beginning of the quest itself. By upgrading it, Guardians will now have the SR-1 Sparrow which promises to be a far faster model than its predecessor. It’s unclear if this upgrade will only affect the Red Bull exclusive sparrow, or if we are able to use it with any ride of our choice in Destiny.
Personally I find this reward a bit underwhelming, as just a sparrow is kind of a boring award. It does not actually help progress your character in anyway and comes down to letting you navigate the world a bit faster. Given sparrows only really serve a single function in Destiny, which is another problem all together, I can imagine most gamers will not be overjoyed with their new prize. Hopefully you are able to earn either legendary weapons or rarer materials that are far more useful in the long run.
