It is no surprise to anyone that Netflix has been working on a live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender television series. And after three years of waiting, the cast and crew have been announced.

The cast of the live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender television series is as follows: Gordon Cormier (The Stand, Lost in Space) is set to play Ang. Kiawentiio (Anne with an E) and Ian Ousley (13 Reasons Why) will play the brother and sister duo, Katara and Sokka. Last but not least, Dallas Liu (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings) will play the part of Zuko as he searches for his honor.

Albert Kim will serve as showrunner and executive producer for the live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender series. Alongside executive producers Dan Lin, Lindsey Liberatore, and Michael Goi. The original creators behind Avatar, Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko left the project due to creative differences.

In a Netflix blog post, Kim commented on the importance of authenticity in the live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender:

We’ll be expanding and growing the world, and there will be surprises for existing fans and those new to the tale… But throughout this process, our byword has been ‘authenticity.’ To the story. To the characters. To the cultural influences. Authenticity is what keeps us going, both in front of the camera and behind it, which is why we’ve assembled a team unlike any seen before — a group of talented and passionate artists who are working around the clock to bring this rich and incredibly beautiful world to life.

As of this writing, there is no official word on when the live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender television series will release. But, until then, the original Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Kora is available for your streaming pleasure on Netflix.
