Earlier this year, Zack Snyder released his zombie film, Army of the Dead. Now, another installment in the story is set to take place. The Army of the Dead prequel, also known as Army of Thieves, is set to release on Netflix later this year. Matthias Schweighöfer returns in this prequel as his character, Ludwig Dieter.

Army of the Dead sees a rag-tag team of mercenaries trying to commit a casino heist. Except, there’s a slight problem. The casino is in Las Vegas, and there’s a zombie apocalypse raging on. Some of the cast includes Dave Bautista, Tig Notaro, and Hiroyuki Sanada. It was directed by Zack Snyder who was also the co-producer and co-writer. Zack had previous experience working on a zombie film. He directed the film, Dawn of the Dead, back in 2004.

Army of Thieves won’t see Snyder return as director. However, he is returning as a co-producer. Instead, Matthias himself will direct the film. According to his IMDB page, Matthias has directed numerous projects. Some of these include The Manny and Joy of Fatherhood.

The Army of the Dead prequel will take place six years before Army of the Dead. Similar to the first movie, it will be about a heist. Ludwig Dieter joins a group of thieves to pull this off. Except for this time, it will take place during the beginning of the zombie apocalypse.

Army of Thieves Release Date

The Army of Thieves release date is set for October 29, 2021, exclusively on Netflix. This won’t be the last installment in the Army of the Dead story. It’s also reported that an animated series is in the works. This animated series will follow Scott Ward during the beginning of the zombie apocalypse. Although there is no release date for that project, we’re excited to see it in the future.

Army of Thieves is coming in a few months, just in time for Halloween. In the meanwhile, check out other movie news such as Netflix Reveals its Fall 2021 Original Movie Release Schedule and Free Guy Tops Box Office For Second Weekend.
