Halloween Kills was released on Thursday, with a strong box office performance of $4.9 million dollars, projecting great things for its opening weekend. The film, from director David Gordon Green, is a follow-up to the 2018 Halloween reboot. Halloween also performed very well at the box office, raking in an outstanding $255 million worldwide. This was a record-breaking box office performance within the world of horror. During its release, Halloween outperformed Scream, which previously held the slasher box office record.

If the Thursday night premiere is any indication, Halloweeen Kills has the potential to perform well at the box office. This is made all the more notable due to the fact that the film is also available on the streaming service Peacock.

Iconic Stars Return to Reprise Their Roles

The plot of Halloween Kills picks up right where the original left off, as Laurie continues to fend off Michael Myers. Jamie Lee Curtis returns to play Lauria again. In addition to Curtis, the film will also see Nick Castle reprise his role as the iconic Michael Meyers. Despite Halloween Kill’s great box office performance, the movie is garnering mixed reviews from critics. It currently holds a 47% on Rotten Tomatoes. The critical consensus states that “Halloween Kills should satisfy fans in search of brute slasher thrills, but in terms of advancing the franchise, it’s a bit less than the sum of its bloody parts.”

Halloween Kills will Kill at the Box Office

Despite the critical misgivings, The Hollywood Reporter projects that Halloween Kills will make $25 million in box office revenues during its opening weekend. Halloween Kills is the second film in a planned trilogy. The third film, Halloween Ends will release on October 14, 2022. Halloween Kills’s solid box office is a sign that movie theaters are starting to see an uptick in attendance. Let There Be Carnage saw a strong $90 million in box office revenue while No Time to Die raked in $55.2 million.
