After years of waiting, the first official Uncharted movie trailer has finally been released despite a troubled production process. The Uncharted movie trailer introduces Tom Holland’s Nathan Drake as a young bartender where he meets a mustache-less Sully, played by Mark Wahlberg. From what is shown in the trailer, it looks like the classic duo is hunting for Magellan’s treasure. Sophia Ali will join Holland and Wahlberg as Drake’s love interest, Chloe Frazer, and the three of them will team up against the “bad guy” played by Antonio Banderas.
Fans of the Uncharted series will recognize key moments from the gaming franchise. A marooned ship, the cargo plane sequence from Uncharted 3, what might be the party sequence from Uncharted 4, and various in-game relics all make an appearance. Drake’s brother, Sam who is a crucial character in Uncharted 4, is also mentioned briefly.
In a blog post from Naughty Dog, Neil Druckmann commented on the film’s direction:
In discussions with the film’s director, Ruben Fleischer, he shared that he “made the movie for both hardcore fans of the game and those who are not yet familiar with the franchise and believe that both will be equally entertained by this incredibly fun and action-packed film.”
It’s going to be an epic, emotional ride for new and old fans as we watch Nathan Drake make his big screen debut! Sic Parvis Magna indeed!”
The Uncharted movie is set to release on February 18th, 2022. As of this writing, it will only release in theaters and will not be available through a day-and-date streaming service. To celebrate the film’s release, the Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection is slated for release on PlayStation 5 and PC in early 2022.
