Spider-Man fans in the United Kingdom will be the first to see the new film as Spider-Man: No Way Home will swing into UK theaters on Dec. 15, two days earlier than the release in the US. According to Digital Spy, Sony did confirm that the highly-anticipated MCU film will be coming to UK theaters that Wednesday.
Normally, this news means very little as it has happened before. According to Collider, the latest MCU film, Eternals, dropped two days early in France, Germany, and Sweden. Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, starring Simu Liu, debuted two days early in France, Italy, and Korea. However, the reason why this could be a big deal is due to social media. Leaks, rumors, and fan theories have been all over the internet and it would make sense for UK viewers to want to share their immediate reactions and potential spoilers on Twitter or other social media platforms.
However, US audiences will not have to wait long as Thursday night previews will begin on December 16 before No Way Home officially releases on December 17. So far, what we know about No Way Home is that it will be a journey through the multiverse for Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) and Spider-Man (Tom Holland) after a spell goes awry in an attempt to make the world forget that Peter Parker is Spider-Man. They will be joined by other MCU characters including MJ (Zendaya), Ned (Jacob Batalon), and Aunt May (Marisa Tomei). There will also be returning Spider-Man villains such as Alfred Molina reprising his Spider-Man 2 role as Doctor Octopus and Jamie Foxx reprising his The Amazing Spider-Man 2 role as Electro.
There are still plenty of rumors suggesting other characters returning and hopefully, UK audiences won’t spoil many of the No Way Home surprises. However, these are the only ones that have been officially confirmed, although a tiny Green Goblin (Willem Dafoe) has been appearing in recent posters. There will be a new trailer unveiled tomorrow at a fan event in Los Angeles that will also feature “big surprises.”
