Defog is a Hidden Move in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl that allows players to remove the fog obscuring some areas of the map. Once trainers arrive at Route 210 during the main story, they will encounter a thick mist covering the path through the woods. While it’s possible to blindly stumble through the maze, Defog offers a better solution: whisk the fog away! One of the best things about the franchise‘s cuddly companions is how much easier their Hidden Moves can make things, after all. Here’s how to get and use Defog in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl.

To get Defog in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl, you must speak with an NPC within the Great Marsh, also known as the Safari Zone. Unfortunately, you can’t just stroll into the Safari Zone whenever you’d like. Here are the steps you need to follow:

  • Go to Pastoria City
  • Pass through the Great Marsh Gate
  • Pay the receptionist 500 Pokemon Dollars

It’s a low price of entry overall, however, and well worth it when you consider what you’ll be getting in return. Once inside, speak with the green-haired NPC to learn Defog.

Now that you’ve unlocked Defog in Pokemon BDSP, you can now assign it to one of your Pokemon and use it at will. It’s a Flying Type move, which you should keep in mind when selecting which Pokemon to teach it to. To use Defog, press R to enlarge the side window and select the Hidden Moves tab, then select Defog. You can now use this move whenever you’re in a foggy area like the Safari Zone or Route 210. As soon as you do, the fog will dissipate, making navigating the area much easier.

Pokemon Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl are available on Nintendo Switch.
